Primary schoolchildren are among Scots who have been referred to the Prevent anti-terror programme, shocking new figures reveal.
Police Scotland said the number of cases passed on to experts over radicalisation fears had leapt by nearly a third in the past year.
The number of referrals of potential extremists from primary schools – where children can be as young as four – has more than doubled.
There were 27 for pupils under the age of 15 – while some were reported to Prevent by members of their own families.
Last night Scottish Tory community safety spokesman Sharon Dowey said: “It is deeply alarming that a rising number of referrals to this counter-terror programme are kids of such a young age.”
