United Nations urges government to suspend the Prevent strategy in the UK

Prevent Watch welcomes the recommendation by the United Nations to suspend the Prevent strategy in the UK, through the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which has urged Downing Street:

• to suspend Prevent
• to revise its counter-terrorism strategies
• to give adequate reparations to children and families who have suffered abuse as a direct result of Prevent.

“These points broadly support Prevent Watch’s submission to the CERD, which argued for a withdrawal of Prevent from education and health – a position we will maintain,” said Dr Layla Aitlhadj, director of Prevent Watch.

“We thank all the brave people who agreed to present their experiences as evidence. We could not have done it without you.”
