It was CAGE who first drew out the Police State as a goal of counter-extremism policy, and specifically the UK’s Prevent Strategy; this landmark report in anti-counter-extremism research outlines how Muslim life is securitised from birth to death.
This was the first comprehensive report into the Prevent strategy from a Muslim civil society perspective.
Authored by research team at CAGE, it traced the wide-ranging and disturbing impact of Prevent through the lives of Muslims from early years to university, from the mosque to work and even the home.
The report also underlined how the Prevent strategy developed to target ideas, beliefs and values, and how the language of Prevent is problematic not just for Muslims, but a range of other groups and communities that could easily fall into its net.
