Muslim teacher suspended after discussing the meaning of terrorism on private forum

A Muslim teacher was suspended under Prevent’s flawed assumptions, after debating the meaning of terrorism on a private forum.

The teacher’s views were not violent, nor did they call for violence. Rather, they were part of the normative discourse of academia and politics on the subject of “who is considered a terrorist”.

This was one of Prevent Watch’s first cases, and it saw the teacher suspended and investigated. The process led to psychological problems for the teacher.

His family also experienced difficulties because of the stress of the investigation, and the threat of a major breadwinner losing his job and having his reputation harmed.

However, the teacher was reinstated after investigations found there had been no wrongdoing.
