Amnesty has commended the UN’s recognition of key rights violations in the Prevent strategy, and it has called for the UK government to scrap Prevent when releasing its review in October after United Nations findings provided a damning assessment of racism in the UK.
Amnesty’s reaction comes after recommendations made by the Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, after the UN concluded that there needs to be a suspension of the UK government’s controversial Prevent.
The UK government will conclude its review of its counter-extremism strategy in October with an opportunity to chart a new path forward.
